Board of Directors and Officers

Pacekids Programs for Children with Motor Disabilities Society is a registered, non-profit, charitable organization run by a volunteer Board that consists of parents of children in the programs as well as other professional community members. The role of the Board is to establish strategic goals for the organization, to ensure that appropriate governance is in place through effective Policies and Procedures and to provide advice and support to the Executive Director and the staff. Board members are elected for a one-year term and meet a minimum of ten times each year. Following is an overview of Pacekids' current Board of Directors:

Mr. David de Groot, President

David de Groot is an associate with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP. His primary focus is commercial litigation, though he also practices in the fields of labour law and bankruptcy and insolvency. David is excited to apply his legal skills and experiences to assist Pacekids in providing services to the community.

Mr. David Nuth, Vice President

David Nuth earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Carleton University and moved to Alberta in 1981 from Ottawa. He went on to own three businesses and to serve in senior management positions in the Oil & Gas and High Tech sectors before joining Investors Group as a Financial Consultant. Dävid has worked with a number of charities and is currently involved with Junior Achievers, sits on the Art & Business committee for the Chamber of Commerce and the Advisory Board for Shawnessy YMCA. Additionally, he instructs part time at the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre. David joined the Pacekids' Board in November 2008.

Ms. Jane Hua, Treasurer

Jane received her Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Alberta in 1996 and went on to receive the CGA designation from SAIT in 2004. Jane has worked in accounting in various positions over the last ten years most recently as a financial analyst at Ivanhoe Cambridge. Jane has a daughter that attends Pacekids Infant program. Jane has joined the Board of Directors in November 2008.

Ms. Shanna Jaap, Secretary

Shanna Jaap is an energetic, passionate and result-oriented Human Resources Advisor at Symcor Inc. Shanna earned a BA in sociology and a Human Resources Management certificate from the University of Calgary and has over 7 years of Human Resources experience in Training & Development, Benefits, Compensation, Pension, Performance Management, Recruitment and Disability Management. Shanna has a son who attends Pacekids ECS program. Shanna joined the Board of Directors in November 2009.

Mr. William Bridge, Director

William Bridge is the Executive Vice-President & Chief Technology Officer at Transalta Corporation. He has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria. Will has a broad level of 18 years of experience in the power industry in a wide array of areas including strategy development, plant operations, portfolio and asset management, and business development. Will has a daughter that attends Pacekids Speech and Language Enhancement Program and Specialized Services Program. Will joined the Board in November 2009.

Mr. Gregory Humphreys, Director

Greg is an Independent Design and Implementation Consultant for the Wireless Communications Industry, since 2001. He is also the President of the WRCA (Willow Park & Maple Ridge Community Association). He is a Current Volunteer and Share Holder of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede since 1986 and he also had an appointment to the City of Calgary Taxi Commission in 1996 - 2004 as Vice Chairman in 1997 and Chairman in 2002. Greg has a daughter that attends the Pacekids' PUF Program.

Mrs. Illisha Patterson, Director

Illisha Patterson is currently finishing a Counseling Psychology Masters program at the City University of Seattle. Illisha has lots of experience in this field; she worked as a Behavior Therapist for many years and has been the Manager of Volunteers at Pacekids from 2007 - 2009. Illisha also has a daughter that graduated from our ECS program and is currently enrolled in our Developmental Aide Program. Illisha joined the Board in November 2010.

Mr. Romeo Rojas, Director

Romeo Rojas is an associate lawyer with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer. His primary focus is commercial and general litigation, energy litigation, and mediation and arbitration. Romeo received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 2000 and started his career as a Foreign Service Officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Romeo joined the Board in November 2009.

Mr. Michael Rooney, Director

Michael Rooney has over 10 years experience as a coach and counselor for children aged 5-13. Michael graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in general studies in 2007 and started his career at the BMO Bank of Montreal as the Assistant Branch Manager of Customer Service and Sales and later as the Commercial Account Manager Deposits. Currently Michael is employed at Manulife. Michael is excited to apply his banking background in commercial services to assist Pacekids in cost effectiveness and efficient banking. Michael joined the Board in November 2009.
