Pacekids has an approved Designated Site for ECS status for Program Unit Funding (PUF) from Alberta Education.Purpose of Program
This learning program teaches functional mobility, self-care skills, fine motor skills, social skills and active communication. To achieve this, the Pacekids team, in consult with parents, develops an individual program plan (IPP) for each child that sets realistic and attainable goals that are compatible with each child's needs.
The Pacekids team includes a certified special education teacher, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, psychologist and a one-to-one teaching assistant. These specialists work together to focus on the child as a whole. Their shared goal is the development of healthy self-esteem, dignity, and independence.
Teaching assistants work one-on-one with a child in the Pacekids' classroom and in the child's home five days a week, and may also work with the child in an integrated community preschool. During the Kindergarten year the team focuses also on transition planning for the child working with school boards and community agencies in finding placements for Grade 1.
