Success Stories

O
ur daughter has attended Pacekids for the last four years and it has been a wonderful experience for our family.
Pacekids strives to provide an open and inviting atmosphere for both the students and their parents. We find the staff to be energetic and positive, they truly care about each students' success in learning. We liked that all of the staff receive continuous training throughout the school year to assist them in providing the best possible support for the students they work with.
Our daughter has been extremely successful in her learning because of the one-to-one aide/student ratio. This ratio has allowed her to develop skills in various areas to meet the challenges in her day. She is always smiling when she comes through the door at Pacekids and is met with a cheerful hello from all the staff. She loves all the interactive and fun activities provided throughout the day.
We are very grateful to Pacekids for all they have done for our family.

y husband and I are the parents of Tom, a gorgeous 3 year old little boy affected by fragile X Syndrome.
We feel totally blessed to have found Pacekids Program. Not only does he learn preschool skills but he is being followed and helped by a team of highly competent therapists. The speech therapist, the occupational therapist and the physiotherapist have learned to really know Tom and they deeply care about his progress.
Within days of entering the program an elaborate set of goals were set in an IPP program and his improvements are being reviewed on a monthly basis.
Like every other child in the program, he works with his own highly trained aide 15 hours a week. Two mornings a week he gets to play and learn in small groups successively with each member of the therapists and a preschool teacher. He works on his goals at home with his aide three other mornings a week.
As parents, my husband and I are convinced that our son's future is much brighter since he has entered Pacekids Program as we know that he is in excellent hands.

e first learned of Pacekids Programs through the Alberta Children's Hospital. Our child has a motor disability impacting her physical mobility and speech. We needed a program to assist her with her needs. The progress and development we have seen for our child since she has been with Pacekids is unbelievable and would not have occurred at the rate it has if it were not for the support, hard work and dedication of the Pacekids team. Since our child has been with Pacekids, she has learned to walk, talk and interact with other children and people. She has become a great inspiration to many other children and families.
Prior to becoming involved with Pacekids, we experienced difficulty coping and understanding our child's disabilities. Once we joined Pacekids, we realized we were not alone and found great support not only for our child but for ourselves as a family.

P
acekids has done a terrific job with my son's developmental aide program. The initial intake was crisp and efficient. We met with Candis, the psychologist and Erika, the executive director, and quickly mapped out the program goals and administrative details. Joann then hired and trained our first aide in just a few weeks. The aides have been well trained and very adept at helping my son over the little rough spots that inevitably come up. The program has run smoothly ever since the beginning, my son enjoys it, and best of all, he's making progress in all his areas of need. Thanks, Pacekids!

ithout Pacekids Programs, we would have completely lost all hope. Our daughter, Alex, was first diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 1. We lived outside of Calgary and began commuting every Thursday to attend the Family Support Program. Through this program, we started to understand our daughter more and how best to help her reach her potential. Our doctors had not given us much expectation and kept saying that "only if she was able to push up to sitting by age 2, would she ever be able to walk". Of course, by age 2 she wasn't capable of accomplishing this test and we were losing optimism. The Pacekids Team never gave up though, and kept encouraging her to meet and exceed little targets.
We moved into Calgary to be closer to Pacekids and Alex was able to attend the Preschool Program and Kindergarten Program, as well as attend a "typical" program in our community. The therapists and aides were able to work with Alex's needs and developed a personalized program for us to follow with her. Slowly, we began to see lots of gains made. Today at age 7 she is walking with her walker, quite successfully. We credit Pacekids for their constant support and guidance.
Alex now receives Specialized Services at Pacekids and attends the Afterschool Program. She feels that Pacekids is her "private club". Not only has she has made lasting friendships with peers but we have met a wonderful group of families who offer us support and insight. Our family feels blessed to be associated with this dedicated organization.
